I. The web site contains a Data Base of 1800+ Ragas and
gives Basic theoretical information (Raga Swaroopa) of Common and Rare Ragas and
audio samples illustrating briefly the Melodic structure of 850+Ragas.
II. RAGA SEARCH MENU:
(A) RAGA SEARCH WHEEL:
(a)You can find the desired Raga/s using Unique “Raga
Search Wheel” in any one of the following ways:
i) Name of a Raga;
ii) Search alphabetically;
iii) Notes used in the Raga; e.g. R,M, P,d etc.;
iv) Name of a family of Ragas, e.g. Kanada, Malhar, etc.;(15 Raganga are considered)
v) Name of a Thata; e.g. Asavari, Kalyan etc.;(10 Thata)
vi) Name of a Melakarta; Vachaspati, Sarasangi etc.; (32 Melakartas)
vii) Traditionally accepted Time Zone for a Raga;
viii) Number of notes used in the Raga- 5, 6 or 7.
(b) After selecting Search / Refine Search button,
the number of Ragas satisfying the criteria, is displayed. Click on Details button
to see a list of Ragas satisfying your Search criteria. Facility is provided to
refine the search by selecting additional criteria.
(c) Once you find the Raga, you have the following options:
i) Listen to Audio File and see the Brief theoretical information
of Raga along with download option (where sound sample is available) .
ii) View Brief theoretical information of Raga (where sound
sample is not available);
(B) FIND SCALE-CONGRUENT RAGAS:A facility
to find Scale-congruent Ragas is provided under the this sub- menu;
(C) RAGA SEARCH BY PHRASES:A
visitor can search the Data Base of Ragas by Raga Phrases which helps the visitor
to find Ragas using same phrases(Page will be added shortly).
(D)LIST OF AUDIO FILES enables the visitor
to see at a glance all the Audio Samples available on the web site and to choose
audio samples on the basis of the Raga-Name or Artist or the Instrument;
(E) MASTER LIST OF RAGAS is provided which gives a list
of 2100+Ragas alphabetically arranged along with (i) their Common Name and / or
Alternate Name, and name of a similar Raga from Carnatic Music; (ii) whether an
audio sample is available on the web site;(iii) A Page symbol highlights those Ragas
where only information is available, but the audio sample is not received;(iv) Raga
Names, which are not included in the Data Base, because they are either preferred
for Light Compositions or are of the nature of composed music or are Raga-Mala or
for which the information available is vague, are highlighted in a separate Column;
and (v) Ragas for which only names are known, but, no information or an audio sample
is available are highlighted in a separate Column.
For ready reference, submenus showing the lists of following five classes of
Ragas along with their pdf versions are added.
(a) A Master List of Ragas - visitor can
enter the name of a Raga and search to find out whether for the Raga Audio is available
or Information only is available or whether only the name of the raga is available
or whether the raga is not included in the data Base. He can also down load pdf
version of the master list;
(b) A visitor can view LIST OF RAGAS FOR WHICH AUDIOS
ARE AVAILABLE,
(c) A visitor can view LIST OF RAGAS FOR WHICH AUDIOS
ARE REQUIRED,
(d) A visitor can view LIST OF RAGA-NAMES NOT INCLUDED IN THE DATABASE,
(e) A visitor can view LIST OF RAGAS WHERE ONLY NAMES
ARE AVAILABLE.
(F)A VISITOR CAN VIEW LIST OF RECENTLY ADDED RAGAS
(G) RAGA INFORMATION pdf FILES- A visitor
can download pdf files of Raga Information sheets of common Ragas.
III.Students’Corner: This includes a number of submenus,
such as,

related with the theme of the web site are included in a separate page under this
submenu;
IV Raga of the Month
-
(a) Under this submenu a visitor can see the article “Raga
of the month” published in the current month and listen to the audio file attached
therewith. The visitor can also access the Archive of previous articles published
since the launching of the web site in December, 2010. Greater than 125 articles
covering melodious but little known Ragas are available.
(b) Under this submenu, the visitor can see the alphabetical
list of the “Raga of the month” articles included since launching of the website.
V Gems from Pt. Yashwant Mahale’s Archive
- Pandit Yashwant Mahale, an active and lively octogenarian, belonging to the Bhatkhande
tradition and Agra Gharana, presents here some of the oldest records and literature
from his personal Archive, collected and preserved painstakingly by him. He was
fortunate to receive training from his Gurus Acharya S N Ratanjankar, Pandit K G
Ginde and Pandit G N Natu.
